Welcome to Tianyi Zhou’s blog!

I am now working with Prof. Carlos Guestrin leading MODE lab and Prof. Jeff Bilmes leading MELODI lab at University of Washington, Seattle. In summer of 2014, I work with Lin Xiao at Microsoft Research, Redmond.


I was a research assistant in Centre for Quantum Computation & Intelligent Systems (QCIS), Faculty of Engineering & IT, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Australia, and in School of Computer Eigneering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, supervised by Prof. Dacheng Tao.

I got my bachelor degree in automatic control from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), my bachelor thesis topic is “Intelligent spherical robot”, which is supported by National Undergraduate Innovation Plan from Ministry of Education China. In my undergraduate study, I got the Meritorious winner of Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) from COMAP (paper title: Greedy Searching for the Best Strategy for Aircraft Boarding Problem) and T-more innovation scholarship (the top 1 scholarship in BIT, 0.1% of total students). After graduation, I worked as a RA in Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Science (CASIA) in Prof. Tieniu Tan’s group on human gait-footprint recognition.

My current research interests are in machine learning, compressed sensing, matrix completion and factorization, dimension reduction and fast optimization algorithms.
